Canada voiced the country’s prospects in the market of lithium-ion batteries

Canada’s prospects in the lithium-ion battery market were assessed by Simon Moores, director of Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, Mining.com reported on Feb. 22.

Canada is well positioned to become one of the global leaders in the lithium-ion battery market, but regulators and miners need to recognize and support that potential, Benchmark Mineral Intelligence director told the House of Commons.

Canada is rich in lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt, aluminum and manganese, key ingredients needed to make batteries for electric vehicles.

By organizing battery production, Canada could have more opportunities to assemble electric cars and rebuild its own automotive sector.

Canada’s auto industry has declined over the past two decades. The country has lost five assembly plants and about 30 percent of its car production to the United States and Mexico.
